Matungao is a municipality in the province of Lanao del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 9,266 people in 1,656 households.

Barangays

The word Matungao literally mean "COLD" in Maranao Language. It is indeed cold in this place.

Matungao is politically subdivided into 12 barangays.

DR. JABER M. AZIS, R.M.T. is the present Municipal Mayor of Matungao. He is the son of late former Municipal Mayor Hadji Abdul Azis Liwalug.

This municipality Rank first in the 2005 Real Property collection in the entire province of Lanao del Norte, and Second in the entire Region 10, through the effort of its OIC-Municipal Treasurer, Ms. Jayhan A. Amerol and her staff.
