About Mavado

Mavado is unmistakably evil. In many respects, he embodies the underworld antipode of the equally evil Kano. Mavado relies on discipline and superior intelligence to fight, whereas Kano seems to rely mainly on scare tactics and brute force. Even in their appearance, they could not be more different. Mavado is a leading figure within the Red Dragon, an ancient criminal organization whose existence is known only to its members, and whose most prominent rivals are the Black Dragon, an offshoot of the Red Dragon which was led by Kano, but is now reformed under the leadership of Kabal. Mavado is a vicious, pitiless and cruel crime lord. Due to his name , Mavado may be from The Philippines.

Storyline

Mavado begins his journey in the Mortal Kombat series covertly. Since the Red Dragon's top priority is the extermination of the Black Dragon, and the Red Dragon desired to keep their existence secret, the Special Forces proved to be a useful tool to do the job for them. To that end, Mavado's instructed his subordinate, Hsu Hao, to infiltrate the Outer World Investigation Agency and help them in tracking down and killing the last members of the Black Dragon, a mission Hsu Hao performed to great success.

Years after the events of Mortal Kombat Gold, with Jarek seemingly killed by Sonya Blade, and Kabal presumably killed by Mavado himself (the latter's trademark hookswords being taken as trophies in the process), Hsu Hao's task was deemed over. However, Mavado was then contacted by the Deadly Alliance. Both sorcerers saw in the Red Dragon a great potential ally for their eventual domination of Earthrealm. Mavado was hired to fend off Kenshi, in return acquiring the opportunity to battle with Kano, at the time a general in the service of the Alliance. Mavado then instructed Hsu Hao to destroy the Outer World Investigation Agency's underground portal facility, shortly before travelling to Outworld himself.

During the events of Deadly Alliance, Mavado complied: he defeated Kenshi however it is still unknown whether or not Mavado and Kano battled each other yet. Like his overlords Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, however, he had little time to revel in his victory. Shortly before ', Kabal returned fully recuperated from his stay in Chaosrealm, and seemingly killed Mavado to reform the Black Dragon, reclaiming his hookswords in the process. Nevertheless, Mavado is scheduled to return in the upcoming ', though it remains to be seen whether he survived or not.

Trivia

  • Mavado was originally going to be called Malvado, which is Portuguese and Spanish for "evil person".
  • Mavado was poised to make the character roster of Deception, but was dropped in an early stage of development in favor of Kabal.
  • Mavado has three cameos in Deception. First, in Konquest mode in the Realm of Order, he will trade Shujinko for koins. The second is in the background of Kabal's alternate biography, where he appears to be dead. The third is when you meet him in Edenia and if you introduce him to Hsu Hao, he gives you koins.
