Encyclopedia : M : MC : MCF : McFlurry
A McFlurry is a type of ice cream sold by McDonald's, developed and first sold in Canada. McFlurry debuted in late 1997.
Preparation
McFlurry consists of whipped, soft-serve McDonald's vanilla-flavoured ice cream product in a cup. A specially designed spoon with a hole in the handle is attached to a blender. Sprinkles or various types of candy are added to the cup which is then blended using the spoon. The spoon is removed from the blender with the cup and given to the customer with the cup and a clear plastic lid.The ice cream product in a McFlurry is the same product McDonald's uses for its cones, Sundaes and milkshakes. The ice cream product is made from UHT milk, extended with methylcellulose. Flavours vary from market to market, and new flavours are introduced regularly.
Around the World
Much like Dairy Queen's "Blizzard", the McFlurry is available with many different toppings, including:
- Austria: Smarties, Kit Kat, Milka Cherry

In the last year, there have been Dream (white chocolate and strawberry sauce), Lion bar (toffee and wafer) and currently Yorkie (milk chocolate and chocolate sauce) special editions.
- The United States: M&M's are used in place of Smarties, and Strawberry Shortcake is now unavailable though it was sold in various markets. A greater variety of flavours were to be had in the past, but most have since been removed, perhaps due to insufficient demand.
