Meadow Lake is a town of approximately 6,000 people, located in Saskatchewan, Canada. The town has experienced considerable growth in recent years and is technically eligible to apply for city status under Saskatchewan law (which requires a minimum sustained population of 5,000 for city designation), although it remains a town for now.
The Northwest Health District, the Town of Meadow Lake and the Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake had a new health facility built in Meadow Lake in October of 2000.The health centre replaces the old Meadow Lake Hospital and consolidates community services under one roof.
These services, include: thirty-two inpatient beds, 4 detox beds, 4 observation beds; two labour/delivery/recovery rooms; two operating rooms; emergency services, including three state of the art Advanced Life Support Ambulances (the ambulance service responds to over 1200 calls a year); diagnostic services; community based services including public health, home care, community therapy, mental health and addictions; general support services including pharmacy, housekeeping, central stores, maintenance, staff/physician areas, education, admitting, health records and public area; and district administration service.
The Northwest Health Centre is a supportive environment, giving individuals and families access to a wide range of health services.
The total project cost of $14.3 million includes a provincial contribution of $10 million and a local share of $4.3 million.
There is, however, more to the town of Meadow Lake than just health care. Meadow Lake is Hockeyville. When the Meadow Lake Stampeders, the town's senior hockey team and 2006 Provincial Champs play, the town of Meadow Lake come out to support the boys in green.
Meadow Lake's slogan is "Gateway to Pure air and water."
