Meiji University (明治大学) is a famous private university in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, founded in 1881 by three emerging lawyers of the Meiji Era, Tatsuo Kishimoto, Kozo Miyagi, and Misao Yasiro. Meiji University is also known as one of the Tokyo 6 Universities.

The University has 8 faculties with total of around 33,000 students on three campuses in Ochanomizu, the Izumi neighborhood of Suginami-ku, and the Ikuta neighborhood of Tama-ku, Kawasaki.

The famous film director Takeshi Kitano was awarded an honorary Bachelor of Science in engineering in 2004, 34 years after he dropped out to pursue his career in entertainment.

Every year rugby union and baseball matches (Mēsōsen or Sōmēsen) against Waseda University attract particular attention, and is greatly enjoyed by the students.
