Tram route 109 is a public transport service in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It runs between Station Pier in Port Melbourne(along the former Port Melbourne railway line) and a terminus in Box Hill. The route runs along a light rail track between Port Melbourne and Southbank, along the course of the Sandridge railway line, one of the first railway lines in Victoria. It then turns north and continues up Spencer Street to the Melbourne CBD, along Collins Street and then out to the Eastern suburbs. Until 2003 the route terminated in Mont Albert but in 2003 the route received a $28 million state-of-the art extension between Mont Albert and Box Hill, along Whitehorse Road.The route incorporates parts of the following former melbourne tram routes- Route 23: City via Latrobe St - Victoria Pde - Mont Albert [peak only] Route 42: City - Mont Albert Route 47: City - Kew Depot Route 111: Port Melbourne - City - Kew Depot
