Melissa McDermott is a reporter for CBS News. She is a former anchor of the overnight CBS newscast, Up to the Minute.
Biography
Melissa McDermott graduated from the University of Kansas and obtained a bachelor of science degree in broadcast news from the William Allen White School of Journalism. She worked as the 6pm and 10pm anchor at KAYS-TV in Hays, Kansas. From 1986 to 1997, she worked at KSNW-TV in Wichita, Kansas. In 1994, Melissa McDermott and her husband, Todd McDermott, were named co-anchors at KSNW. After that, McDermott worked at WJLA-TV in Washington, DC.
Melissa McDermott anchored CBS's overnight newscast, Up to the Minute, for a few years. She was succeeded by Meg Oliver in March 2006. McDermott lives in New York City and has two children with her ex-husband, W*USA-TV Washington D.C.'s lead anchorman Todd McDermott.
Accomplishments
Melissa McDermott has covered presidential campaigns, the Oklahoma City bombing, and other events. She has received many awards; including a national and two regional Edward R. Murrow awards, the SPJ Dateline Award, three Heartland Emmy Awards, an Ohio State Award, a National AP Award, a National Iris Award, and an Emmy Award.
