Encyclopedia : M : ME : MER : Mercedes-Benz W212
Codenamed W212, the next-generation E-Class will arrive for the 2009 model year, with the estate version (codenamed S212) expected for 2010. Although not much information has been offered in regards to the upcoming fifth-generation E Class, sources are speculating an increase of around 20mm in length. That, combined with a redesigned interior, will offer a more spacious feel to the passenger compartment.
An all-new instrument cluster, along with S-Class night-vision technology and an updated Command system will highlight the interior changes.
Power-wise, it looks as if the full-range of Mercedes engines will be available, in diesel and petrol variants, although there may be limits in developing markets. The basic powerplant will consist of four-cylinder engines with the horsepower rating starting at 175bhp, followed by 6 and 8 Cylinders and the performance-built AMG variant.
