Messier 108 (also known as NGC 3556 or M108 for short, suggested name Surfboard Galaxy) is a spiral galaxy about 45 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Located in the Ursa Major North group of galaxies, it was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. In 2005, Scott D. Davis suggested the name, the Surfboard Galaxy, due to its shape being seen edge-on, making its apperence look like a surfboard [link].
