|} M49 (also known as NGC 4472) is an elliptical galaxy about 60 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1771 and is a member of the Virgo cluster. Only one supernova (SN 1969Q) was reported in this galaxy in June 1969. M49 has two probable satellite galaxies (NGC 4465 and NGC 4467). External link
