Meta-bigotry

Meta-bigotry is a type of entertainment which contains extremely bigoted people (such as Eric Cartman of South Park.) These programs tend to make fun of these characters by humiliating them or giving them the comeuppance they deserve. But often the fact that the programs make fun of them subtly leads to a portion of the audience agreeing with the characters in question and leaning further and further towards that way of thinking. The term was coined by Slate.com's Sam Anderson.
