Metamorphosis (Hilary Duff album)
Encyclopedia : M : ME : MET : Metamorphosis (Hilary Duff album)
Metamorphosis is the debut studio album by American pop music singer Hilary Duff, released in the United States on August 26 2003 (see 2003 in music). The Matrix, who had worked with Avril Lavigne and Liz Phair, wrote and produced three songs on the album: "So Yesterday", "Where Did I Go Right" and "The Math". Duff's sister, Haylie Duff, wrote the songs "Sweet Sixteen" and "Inner Strength". The album debuted at #2 with 204,000 copies on the Billboard 200, being kept from the top spot by Hip Hop Soul Queen Mary J. Blige's album Love & Life. However, the albums would trade spots the next week, putting Duff's Metamorphosis at #1 for one week. Despite the album climbing to the top spot on it's second week, record sales dropped 32% in sales to 138,000 copies. To date the album has sold over 3.7 million copies in the US.
"So Yesterday" was released as the album's first single, and was a moderate worldwide success. It was certified platinum in the U.S., and its video received heavy rotation on MTV, Total Request Live and Much Music. Metamorphosis itself reached number one on the album charts in both the U.S. and Canada. Subsequent singles from the album included "Come Clean", which picked up substantial U.S. radio airplay and became another hit. The video was directed by Dave Meyers and was popular on MTV and Much Music. Third single "Little Voice" reached the Australian top forty in May 2004, its video consisting of footage from Duff's Girl Can Rock tour. The album's final single was "The Math". Metamorphosis was nominated at the Juno Awards of 2004 for "International Album of the Year", losing to 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin'. To date the album has sold 3,801,742 copies.
