Metrobus is a bus service operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Its fleet consists of 1,460 buses covering an area of 1,500 square miles (3,900 km²) in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. There are 182 bus lines serving 12,435 stops, including 2,038 bus shelters and nearly every Metrorail station. Morgan Boulevard is one of only a few stations that are not served by Metrobus. In 2005, Metrobus provided 128 million trips, 40% of all Washington Metro trips.[#endnote_wmata-fact] On a typical weekday, it provides about 460,000 trips.[#endnote_June-19-Ridership-Release] Most bus trips cost $1.25, with express buses costing $3 and discounts for K-12 students in Washington, D.C. and senior citizens over the age of 65.
