Metroland is a is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Torstar Corporation. Metroland is Ontario's largest community newspaper publisher. Metroland publishes more then 100 community newspapers that are concentrated in the southern Ontario region and around Toronto.
The combined distribution of the community newspapers published by Metroland was approximately 4.5 million copies per weekin 1995.
Metroland publishes a number of specialty products. These publications focus on a particular market segments. Forever Young, City Parent, The Shopping News, ten regional editions of The Business Times, eye weekly and Real Estate News are all published by Metroland. The company also produces and manages many consumer shows. These include the Toronto Golf & Travel Show, the National Bridal Shows, the Fifty Plus Lifestyles & Travel Show and The Family Show.
Metroland is one of the largest commercial printers for other publications. The company owned presses housed in seven different printing locations publish the various Metroland papers.
Metroland also is a large distributor of flyers and circulars. Flyers are distributed to homes in a advertiser defined area. While primarily using the local newspapers some flyers are delivered in bags and hung on apartment doors especially in communities with a high concentration of apartment and condo buildings. The flyer distribution volumes where over 2.2 billion pieces in 2005. These distribution volumes have grown every year for the 20 consecutive years.
