The Metropolitan Borough of Stockport is a Metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester. It is named after its main town of Stockport and includes neighbouring towns such as Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme, Marple, Bredbury, Reddish and Romiley.

The present borough was created in 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the county borough of Stockport along with the urban districts of Bredbury and Romiley, Cheadle and Gatley, Hazel Grove and Bramhall and Marple, in Cheshire. Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council governs the borough.

The 2005 population estimate recorded a population of 305,532 in the borough.
