Mian (Urdu: میاں ) is a particular title of nobility used in Punjab, Pakistan. Mian are predominantly for the ruling members and leaders of Arain tribe.

It can be used to mean a variety of men in notable positions, including Sardar, or more informally for an owner, respectable and honorable man and husband. Mostly used by Arains, it is also used by some Chinioti Shaikhs and Kashmiris. Mian Nawaz Sharif, former Pakistani Prime Minister is a Kashmiri.

Arains from Lahore are famous Mian Arains of Mozang Chungi, Ichra, Sanda, Mughalpura, Baghbanpura, Singhpura, Dharampura, Qila Gujjar Singh at Lahore.

Proper noun

The Baghbanpura Mian is a Pakistani noble family. It has enjoyed a prominent role in Punjabi and Pakistani politics since the days of the Mughal Empire.

They originally owned the land on which the Shalimar Gardens were built. The land was handed to the local ruler, Shah Jahan, and in return custodianship of the Gardens was granted to the family. The Mian family ceased to be custodians of the site in 1962, after opposing the imposition of martial on Pakistan by General Ayub Khan.
