It is the historic name for the community known as present day Conne River (The community as opposed to Conne River, the river).
Since 1985, the community has renewed it's traditional culture, which had been put on hold, after the exile of Saqamaw Geodol.
A favourite attraction for visitors from near and far is its Annual Powwow, started in 1995 and held the first weekend every July. Miawpukek celebrated its 11th Annual Powwow in 2006.
