Michael Lang
Encyclopedia : M : MI : MIC : Michael Lang
Michael Lang along with Artie Kornfeld was one of the four main Producers of the famous Woodstock Music and Arts Festival in 1969. He produced one of the biggest pre-Woodstock Concert in Miami which had 40,000 guests. Was called a cosmic hippie.
An unlikely businessman, Lang was a light-hearted hippie who had owned a head shop, and hoped to eventually build a recording studio in the Woodstock area to serve artists such as Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin, who had homes nearby. Lang pitched the studio idea to Joel Rosenman, who hatched the idea of a rock concert with the same performing artists instead.
Lang would go on to produce successor concerts in 1994 and 1999, although he had nothing to do with the Woodstock-named concerts of 1979 and 1989. Lang also had a hand in producing the very successful Amsterjam concert held on Randall's Island, NYC in August of 2005.
