Middleton Grange Shopping Centre
Encyclopedia : M : MI : MID : Middleton Grange Shopping Centre
Middleton Grange is a shopping centre in Hartlepool, England. It was opened by Princess Anne in 1968. The site of the shopping centre was originally terraced houses until most of them were bombed during World War II. It is the third largest shopping centre in the north east after MetroCentre in Gateshead and Eldon Square in Newcastle.
The achitecture of the building is the 1960s brutalist style but most of it is hidden inside due to the modernised indoor conversion in 1993 but the Market Hall still has a reminder of the hidden architecture due to the market hall already being indoor and not being modernised except a new coating of paint. The longest serving retail outlets since the opening are Woolworths and Marks & Spencer.
