Plot
Set in Renaissance Italy, the story centers on Fabrizio, a twelve-year-old boy who is the reluctant servant of Mangnus the Magician. Magnus has been falsely accused of necromancy, when in reality he is merely an entertainer, and has been under house arrest as a result. Fabrizio's use of tarot cards to predict the future has disastrous consequences for himself and his master. The king's guard arrive to convey Magnus to the castle, where the King demands that Magnus save his daughter, from a ghost that is haunting her, in exchange for Magnus' freedom.
