The Migration to Medina was an event on the 9 September 622 where Muhammad prepared his small community of Meccan Muslims to migrate to Medina.
Overview
This event came to be the turning point for the Muslims, from being oppresed and persecuted, to becoming independet.In Muslim view, this event was prophecised in the Bible, Book of Isaiah, chapter 21 [[Citing sources citation needed]].
History
Prelude
Muhammad, preaching the doctrines of one God and the threat of the Day of Judgment, did not at first have much success in the city of Mecca. His tribe, the Quraysh, which was in charge of the Kaaba, persecuted and harassed him continuously, until a assassination atempt forced him to flee the city.preparations

He and his followers (the "Muhajirun") emigrated to the city of Yathrib, 320 km north of Mecca, in September 622 CE.Day 1
Day 1: Thursday 26 Safar AH 1, 9 September 622: Left home in Mecca. Stayed three days in the Cave of Thawr near Mecca.

In Medina, the Muslims could be safe for the first time in many years.
Many decades after this event, during the caliphat of Umar, Ali proposed and it was decided that the Islamic year was to be based on the date of this event.
