Encyclopedia : M : MI : MIK : Mikael Rudolph

Mime Artist Mikael Rudolph (b. June 15, 1958) originally from Bainbridge Island, Washington, studied mime as a young man in the Seattle area with The Seattle Mime Theatre and Pepper Kaminoff, received a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Art from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington and went on to study mime further with Gregg Goldston and C. Nicholaus Johnson at the School for Mimes in Gambier, Ohio where he attended multiple summer seminars with Marcel Marceau. It is there that Mr. Marceau commented about Rudolph's illusionary "Gravity Lecture" piece: "In this style...he is a master. Absolutely. It could not have been done any better."

Commitment to the Edina, Minnesota based Christian touring missionary ministry group "EPPIC" led to a move to Minnesota in 1986 and five years of touring, teaching, directing and performing with the group.

Rudolph furthered his study with Kari Margolis of the Margolis Brown Company while the company was located in Minneapolis for a number of years in the late 1990's and also broadened his movement style and skills with the study of ballroom dancing, in which he was a professional competitor and is still a teacher and performer, occationally competing with students in Pro-Am events.

Still an active mime performer as of this writing in 2006, Rudolph's performances have been seen in various venues all over the world, including street performing and performing in festivals in Europe, Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia and New Zealand as well as all over the United States in the 1980's and 1990's. As his work matured, Rudolph has gravitated toward indoor theatrical venues to present his solo, suitcase show: "Swim Home" and is a three-time returning performer at the Flint Hills International Children's Festival in St. Paul, Minnesota held at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts as well as a three-time returning Performer/Host of "The Edge" performance series held annually at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hopkins, Minnesota.

Rudolph resides in South Minneapolis, performing locally, producing an annual Mime and Physical Theatre Festival called "Foolfest" in St. Paul and traveling nationwide for shows.
