Mikael Stanne is the vocalist for the Swedish melodic death metal band, Dark Tranquillity. He originally played rhythm guitar and provided backing vocals on their first album, Skydancer, as well as on their early demos, including those released under the name Septic Broiler. After Skydancer, when Anders Friden left Dark Tranquillity, Stanne became the sole vocalist. In addition to his usual "death growl" vocals, the band's 1999 album Projector showcased his operatic "clean" singing abilities. He also wrote many of the band's lyrics.
He was a session vocalist for the Swedish melodic death metal band, In Flames, providing the lead vocals on their debut album Lunar Strain (1994). Contrary to popular belief, he was never a full member of the band - he did the session work as a "favor".
