Encyclopedia : M : MI : MIK : Mike Erwin

Mike Erwin (b. August 31, 1978) is an American actor who is best known as Colin Hart in the now cancelled WB television series Everwood. He has been more widely heard as the voice of Jak in the Jak and Daxter series from Jak II onward. He is also the voice of Speedy in Teen Titans. He was also a guest star on many TV shows and has also appeared in film.

He is sometimes credited as Michael Erwin.

His Work in Mike was originally invited to do a guest starring role as Colin Hart, but the response from fans to his character was strong, and after two episodes, he was brought on as a series regular. His character, Colin, had already formed part of the crucial backstory for the main characters Bright and Amy Abbott. Colin was extremely close with Bright Abbot, and was dating Amy. After an accident for which Bright felt responsible, Colin was left in a coma. He returned to Everwood after a difficult surgical procedure performed by Dr. Brown. While the town of Everwood at large, and the Abbotts especially hoped him to return much as he was prior to his accident, he had significant traumatic brain injury when he awoke which had changed his personality somewhat and taken much of his memory. The "new" Colin, who dubbed himself "Colin the Second" lacked the easy confidence and coordination that had marked his pre-injury persona. The difference between his own abilities and the expectation of the townspeople lent tension to his storyline. The traumatic injury to his brain was not completely healed by the surgery, as had been intially hoped, and his behavior became more erratic as the season one continued. Colin began to alienate those around him, pushing away his friends from his "previous" life. This was all the more difficult for his character as he knew that he was missing pieces of who he could have been. Ultimately, he was found to have more extensive damage to his brain that would require a second surgery, and which might not be successful. The operation on his brain started during Season 1 cliffhanger, and his ultimate fate was not revealed until Season 2.

Mike received generally positive reactions by both critics and audience members to his portrayal of Colin. His demise during the second season was important as a signal of Everwood's commitment to difficult story and character development over happy endings.
