Miles Corbet

Encyclopedia : M : MI : MIL : Miles Corbet

Miles Corbet (15951662) was a puritan MP for Yarmouth, England, and played a part in the regicide of Charles I, as the 59th (and last) of the signatories of the King's death warrant. After Oliver Cromwell's death, Corbet fled to the Netherlands, but he was extradited and hanged, drawn and quartered on April 19, 1662.

During the reign of Cromwell, Corbet was in charge of Malahide Castle north of Dublin, Ireland. Local legend has it that each year, on the anniversary of Corbet's death, his ghost can be seen riding across parts of the castle ground.
