For the small car called 'The MINI' made from 2001 onwards by BMW, see MINI (BMW).
A minicar is a car that is smaller than a subcompact car but larger than a microcar. The term seems to have somewhat fallen out of use, because of possible confusion with the more common term supermini, the Mini, MINI and Bond Minicar.
The Smart (automobile) may now be the best known example of a minicar in the West. Important examples have been the Fiat 600, the Austin 7 and the original Mini. The Mini (BMW) and the original Volkswagen Beetle may or may not be classified as minicars.
