Mirror Ball (Neil Young album)
Encyclopedia : M : MI : MIR : Mirror Ball (Neil Young album)
Mirror Ball and Merkin Ball are two releases by Neil Young and Pearl Jam. Their recording sessions yielded both the Young-fronted Mirror Ball, and the Pearl Jam-led two song E.P. Merkin Ball. The two releases complement each other both musically and in the layout and content of the album packaging.
Young wrote all of the tracks for Mirror Ball, except for "Peace and Love", which was co-written by Young and Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder. Due to legal complications between their respective record companies, only Young's name appears on the album sleeve, although the individual members of Pearl Jam are credited inside.
The album was recorded in four days studio time. [Mojo interview]
Neil Young has often worked with other bands such as Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Pearl Jam frequently perform covers of Neil Young songs live, including "Fuckin' Up" and "Rockin' in the Free World".
