The of the Dewa province were descendants of the Shiba clan, founded by Shiba Iekane's son Kaneyori. The influence of the Mogami clan greatly increased during the Sengoku period, especially after the Battle of Sekigahara. Sadly, due to poor administration of Mogami Yoshitoshi in the early Edo Period, the influence and the wealth of the clan was destined to fall.
