Mohammed Ben Aarafa, or Ben Arafa (1889 - 1976) a distant relative of Sultan Mohammed V of Morocco (Arabic: محمد بن عرفة بن محمد), was put in Mohammed V's place by the French after they exiled Mohammed V.
Ben Aarafa was installed in August 1953, he abdicated in October 1955, while Mohammed V was still in exile. He moved to Madagascar then.
Protests against Ben Aarafa helped lead to Moroccan independence, which was agreed to between France and Mohammed V in 1955. He died in 1976 in France.
