(French) (vb) To be without a pigeonhole; to be unable to classify. 17th century French peasants were once subject to a pigeon tax and were required to pay per pigeonhole they owned. It was practice amongst the more rural areas of French départements to use the holes for storing wine bottles to reduce the amount taxable.
It is unknown if this practice led to the invention of the wine rack.
