The Monaco national football team is the national team of Monaco and is controlled by the Monegasque Football Federation. Monaco is neither a member of FIFA nor UEFA, and therefore is not eligible to enter either the World Cup or European Championship. In fact, as of April of 2006, the team has only played eight matches. Playing other obscure footballing nations, they defeated Tibet in 2001 and drew with Gibraltar and Vatican City in 2002. However, Monaco has a highly successful club team, AS Monaco FC, staffed almost entirely by non-Monegasque footballers, that plays in the French Ligue 1. ASM FC were runners-up of UEFA Champions League 2004.
