Monash University, Malaysia campus
Encyclopedia : M : MO : MON : Monash University, Malaysia campus
The Monash University Malaysia (MUM) campus is often referred to as the Sunway campus, due to its location in the Bandar Sunway township in Malaysia, a development of the Sunway Group. Presently the campus shares a cluster of buildings with Sunway University College, however work is underway on a new independent campus, also in the Bandar Sunway area. MUM is one of two Monash campuses outside the state of Victoria in Australia.
A key attraction of the institute to Malaysian and other Asian residents is that the testamur issued upon graduation is indistinguishable from those issued by the Australian campuses, which at least by impression lends a greater level of legitimacy and prestige to the graduate, while at the same time allowing students to enjoy lower tuition costs and substantially lower living expenses.
A completely new independent campus is in the construction phase at a new site within the Bandar Sunway area. The new campus is slated to be completed in early 2007.
Courses
Among the courses provided at the institute include Engineering, Business IT, Biotechnology, Communications Studies, Economics and Finance. Honours programmes have also been offered, as well as Masters research programmes. The Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) programme is also available, however it is administered by Sunway University College.
Accreditation
Programmes at the institute have been accredited by Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN) and the Engineering programmes have been accredited by the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).
