Monmouth (district)

The district of Monmouth was created in 1974 as a merger of the boroughs of Monmouth, Abergavenny, the urban districts of Usk and Chepstow and the rural districts of Abergavenny, Chepstow, Monmouth and part of Pontypool Rural District.
It was abolished in 1996, with the area forming nearly all of the new principal area of Monmouthshire (along with Llanelly from Blaenau Gwent).
The Parliamentary consitiuency of Monmouth covers roughly the same area.
