Montenegro Airlines is the national carrier of Montenegro and based in Podgorica. It is the flag-carrier for the Montenegran government, operating mostly regular and ad hoc charter flights within Central and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Its main base is Podgorica Airport (TGD), near the capital of Montenegro by the same name.

History

It was founded on October 24, 1994 by the government of Montenegro, but the first aircraft, a Fokker F28-4000 was purchased in the autumn of 1996 and the first flight was made on May 7 1997 between Podgorica and Bari, Italy. A temporary ban on flights within the European Union was lifted on 11 October 1999. In 2000 the first Fokker F100 aircraft was delivered. Montenegro Airlines carried its millionth passenger on July 2 2004. The same year they carried record 370,000 passengers. Montenegro Airlines carried its two-millionth passenger on June 14 2006.

The E-Ticket

Montenegro Airlines is the first company on the Balkans, which introduced the so called electronic ticketing on the 22nd of February. The first e-ticket was actually issued on the line, ZürichBelgrade – Zürich. All companies – members of IATA association are obliged to implement electronic ticketing by the end of 2007

Parent Company

Montenegro Airlines is the creator and therefore the parent company of Master Airways. Master Airways is based in Serbia and began flights on 6th of April 2006. Master airways is facing problems in registration process, due to fraud charges. Creating a conmpany in Serbia was important for Montenegro Airlines to secure operations at it's most profitable route Belgrade - Zurich. However, the plan is not sucessful at the moment.
