Character and lifestyle
Mount Lawley is a popular residential suburb for families and professional workers. It is one of the few suburbs in close proximity to the Perth CBD to still predominantly have houses with gardens, and therefore it tends to be quieter and less crowded than most of the inner suburban region. It is well-serviced by public transport, and has a range of shopping facilities, cafes and restaurants, primary, secondary and adult education facilities, private hospitals and aged care facilities. The southeastern corner of the suburb borders the Swan River. Many of its original "Federation" or "character" houses have been restored, giving an historical ambience to many streets - although redeveloped homes and units are dotted throughout. The suburb has a number of sporting facilities, as well as lifestyle attractions for residents, including a highly popular cafe strip centred on Beaufort and Walcott Streets; arguably the city's best video/DVD hire outlet, Planet Video; the Astor Cinema which shows a mixture of box-office hits and art house/feature films; and conveniences such as a 24-hour chemist and 24-hour supermarket with many gourmet goods.
Street art is rife and can be found dotted about.
Schools
The suburb contains Mount Lawley Senior High School, a state school which opened in 1955 which was extensively renovated with $40 million of Government funding in 2005-06. The school offers specialist programmes in music, performing arts and languages. In addition, the suburb contains Perth College, an Anglican private girls' school.External links
