History
Mt Scopus College was opened on St Kilda Road for its first school year in 1949, taking its name from Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, which remained in Israeli control during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The first Jewish dayschool in Melbourne, it initially catered to 143 students, and was built to cope with the influx of Holocaust survivors to the Melbourne community. The college moved to a larger campus in Burwood in 1953.Tuition
Mount Scopus College is famous for allowing all Jewish students to receive a Jewish education no matter their financial situation. All applications for assistance with the cost of tuition are assessed on an individual and completely confidential basis. The majority of parents are happy that the school gives assistance when it is genuinely needed, and the school allocates a significant portion of its budget to fee assistance.See also
