mtvU (formerly College Television Network or CTN) is a television channel of MTV Networks which is available on many college and university campuses across the United States. TV monitors are set up in the student center or students' union, as well as in Dorm lounges giving students access to mtvU. CTN originally began as a venture that installed video jukeboxes at these locations.
mtvU features exclusive content dedicated to aspects of college life, including music, news, student life, and on-campus events. The channel is designed to reflect the fast pace of students' lifestyles, and to reach them everywhere, whether in their dorm rooms, surfing the web, or walking across campus.
With a focus on music, mtvU plays a diverse mix of music programming ranging from hip hop to rock to punk rock to reggae to dance, along with a constant focus on up-and-coming artists creating a 'buzz' on campus. In addition, mtvU is dedicated to providing information of need to students. Each hour, mtvU features news updates from CBS News, including reports from around the world along with the issues making headlines on campus. Also twice an hour, MTV News airs stories on everything from music downloading, to new artists and bands students may be interested in.
mtvU also features a variety of segments on daily campus life including fashion, dating, sport, work study, travel, and food. mtvU's team of VJs travel the country visiting campuses, meeting students, and reproting on all the latest music news and events.
mtvU is a network created for students and as such provides a variety of opportunities for students to get involved- on-air, online and on-campus. Some of the incentives provided to encourage student involvement include: grants, contests and tours.
