Murilo Bustamante

Encyclopedia : M : MU : MUR : Murilo Bustamante

Murilo Bustamante is a Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter. He is associated with Brazilian Top Team. He has a professional MMA record of 12-4-1 as of September 25, 2005.

He was the reigning and undisputed middleweight champion of the UFC after defeating Dave Menne at UFC 35. He made one title defense, against Matt Lindland before leaving the UFC due to financial reasons and signing with PRIDE in 2003.

He was a finalist of the PRIDE Welterweight Tournament 2005 on December 31, 2005, where he dropped a controversial decision to Dan Henderson.

Murilo Bustamante has also fought Quinton Jackson and Chuck Liddell. He dropped decisions to both fighters, but each time with a caveat. Bustamante fought Jackson as a last minute replacement and had virtually no time to train for the fight; still he remained competitive against one of Pride's best Mw's. Against Liddell it appeared to many that Bustamante had won, he out-boxed the feared striker, the judges felt differently however.
