My Left Foot, is a 1989 film which tells the story of Christy Brown, an Irishman born with cerebral palsy, who can only move his left foot. It stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Brenda Fricker, Alison Whelan, Kirsten Sheridan, Declan Croghan, Eanna MacLiam, Marie Conmee and Cyril Cusack.
The movie was adapted by Shane Connaughton and Jim Sheridan from the book of the same name by Christy Brown. It was directed by Sheridan.
It won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Brenda Fricker). It was also nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.
In 2005 it was voted the second-best Irish movie of all time, behind The Commitments. [1]
