History of Myachi
Myachi, before it was known as such, started as a college game. At Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, Steven Ochs (Myachi Man) and his friends flipped around a lighter on the backs of their hands. One day, Ochs stitched an old Guatemalan wallet around an empty lighter. And so the Myachi was born. The name blends the words my and chi, the concept of the energy or power in Eastern philosophy. Mr. Miyagi, the character from The Karate Kid, also inspired Ochs.
When he graduated, Ochs put Myachi on hold and landed a job as a stockbroker in New York City. He soon had a six-figure income, a closet full of Hugo Boss and Zanella suits and an empty heart. He always felt empty.
So in 1997, at age 25, Ochs quit his job and researched the yo-yo, the Frisbee, Beanie Babies and the Pet Rock to see what made them work. He scoured the New York garment district for fabrics and made the first 10,000 Myachi hand sacks himself, using a friend's sewing machine.
Soon he met Sebastian Perron (Big Dog) who's incredible skill with the sacks and great marketing skills made him a "Myachi grand master" (a word for coworker in the Myachi company). After joining the team, Perron grew out his hair into a foot-tall Mohawk with 3 spikes colored red, white, and, blue.
Later he met Jason Loeffler (Kid Myachi), long haired golf club salesman who hated the job. He too was gifted in the art and started to "Jam" (play with his Myachi) He is now another Myachi grand Master.
Eventually he met up with Aaron Davies (Crazy Ivan) who we think was a hobo who had some skill. Together they are the grand masters of Myachi.
Myachi Now
Today Myachi is a small sack used to play the game of the same name.It is similar to a footbag, but of different shape (rectangle) and play with the back of the hand is encouraged. This year "Myachi Man" is expected to sell 1 million of his " original hand sack." It is through his support of Maniax (people who play with or by Myachis) that he is able to evolve the foot sack.
