Myanmar Buddhist Monastic Schools
The Buddhist monastic school system in Myanmar is an old system. They facilitate basic educational needs of the country - filling the significant gap. The primary school children of Myanmar rural areas go to the Buddhist monastries to learn the basis of reading, writing, and calculations. Before 20th century, Buddhist monastic education system was the only source of education for all sort of lives range from royal princes to unskilled workers in Myanmar.
Traditionally, Buddhist monastic schools in Myanmar provide not only curriculum education but also ethics and moral foundation for the kids. It was a core educational system in the past for more than 800 years but its role is still significant even now in the 21st century Myanmar. Supplementing the government elementary schools, the monastic schools nowadays provide underprivileged children in Myanmar rural areas basic education exactly as it does in government elementary schools using the same curriculam.
