N.I.B.

"N.I.B." is a hit song released by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath. It first appeared on their 1970 self titled debut as the fourth track. It has been said that song's main riff was inspired by Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love"
N.I.B.'s lyrics about falling in love and the devil incurred accusations of the band being satanic. Although some fans say that the song was written about the devil falling in love by bassist Geezer Butler, because he couldn't write a love song.
Contrary to common belief, "N.I.B." doesn't stand for "Nativity In Black," in fact, it doesn't stand for anything. Drummer Bill Ward had a beard that singer Ozzy Osbourne said looked like the nib of a fountain pen. The band named the song after the nib and added initials so the name would be more mysterious. There are two Black Sabbath tribute albums named Nativity in Black, based on the faux acronym.
Many bands, including Type O Negative and Pitchshifter, have covered the song. It was also later covered by Ozzy and Primus for Nativity in Black II, and was featured on the box set, Prince of Darkness
N.I.B. was later in the 1990's recorded by Ugly Kid Joe.
