nLite is a free application that is used to create custom flavors of Windows XP, 2000, and 2003.
Installing
To start off, it asks for a Windows installation CD and which folder to copy the files to. After that, it offers several tweaking options. It can slipstream (pre-install) service packs, security patches, and hardware drivers. It can also remove unwanted programs that can't be uninstalled. Examples are Internet Explorer, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Media Player, and much more. Other options include renaming the Program Files, and Windows directories to custom names, disabling/enabling certain features in software programs, etc.
After all of the tweaks are selected and the user decides it's complete, the program will go to work on the Windows CD that was copied to the hard drive. A custom made .iso file will be generated that can be burned onto a CD-RW over and over to test custom Windows installations. These types of installs allow the user to have a pre-installed Windows environment that's very tweaked to their needs. It saves the user a lot of time on things after the install that otherwise would take some time to complete.
