Origins

The term was originally used to describe the founding members of the nWo, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, and their friend, Syxx. They were part of the original nWo and considered the "core" of the original group, which lasted from June 1996 to April 1998. Soon Kevin Nash seperated from the nWo officialy after Spring Stampede in April of 1998. Nash created his own nWo, with red&black as the main colors insead of black&white. Nash was briefly joined by long time tag team partner Scott Hall. However, at Slamboree in May 1998 Scott Hall betrayed Kevin Nash to go with the Giant to nwo Black&white(later dubbed nWo Hollywood) In June 1998, ex-nWo Hollywood member "Macho Man" Randy Savage joined Kevin Nash. They were soon joined by other ex-nWo Hollywood members Konnan and Lex Luger. The last member to join was long time enemy of the original nWo, Sting. This officially ended the reign of the elite nWo, as the group split into two factions: black-and-white nWo Hollywood, led by Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff; and nWo Wolfpac, whose members wore black-and-red. For the remainder of 1998, the two factions struggled for dominance of the New World Order, which had co-branded itself with WCW.

The End of nWo Wolfpac

In November 1998, Kevin Nash won the World War 3 battle royal, granting him a title shot at the undefeated Bill Goldberg. At StarrCade 1998 Nash won with the help of Scott Hall. In January of 1999 Wolfpac and Hollywood factions re-united on an edition of WCW Monday Nitro, effectively ending the NWO Wolfpac (but red and black were sill the colors). The roster was also greatly trimmed during the merger, recalling the more elite days of the group, but it was to be short-lived. By August 1999, Hogan was babyface, Eric Bischoff had split from TV, Scott Hall was at home battling personal demons, and Kevin Nash was WCW's head-booker. These four elements brought the nail-in-the-coffin for the nWo storyline, which had brought on 84 consecutive weeks of ratings dominance in the head-to-head Monday Night Wars.
