In the science fiction television show Stargate SG-1, the Naqahdah generator is a power source which can provide enormous and practically endless amounts of clean energy. The device uses the element Naqahdah to provide power. The Earth version of the device was created by Samantha Carter, based on Orbanian designs, in the episode "Learning Curve". The Naqahdah generator has been used to power not only many Earth-based technology but can be adapted to power other alien technology, such as Ancient technology. The generator is less than a meter long, and is shaped rather like a dumbbell with spheres at its ends.
The Mark II Naqahdah generator, so far only seen in Stargate Atlantis (in "The Siege, Part 2)", operates at a state of barely-controlled overload and achieves 600% of the power output of a Mark I; this produces sufficient power to operate the Ancient control chair for a short period which previously required a Zero Point Module. Nevertheless, it does not produce enough power to operate the Atlantis main shield, nor can it provide a Stargate with enough power to establish a long-lasting intergalactic wormhole. It is possible that the reactor was inspired by the Liquid Naquadah-powered device constructed by Jack O'Neil while he was under the influence of the Library of the Ancients, which was also capable of producing large amounts of power for short periods.
It was mentioned in "No Man's Land" during Weir's stay at the SGC that a pair of Mk. II Naqahdah generators were achieving success in powering the chair in Antarctica.
A Naqahdah generator can also be converted into a bomb, as seen in the episode "Scorched Earth", and is also the weapon responsible for the self-destruct system in Atlantis.
