Natascha Engel

Natascha Engel (born April 9, 1967) is a British politician. She is the Labour Member of Parliament for Derbyshire North East.
Engel was born in Berlin, Germany to a German father and an English mother and is married with two sons: her second son, Anton, was born less than a month after her election.
Educated at Kent College in Canterbury and as a linguist at King's College, London and at Westminster University, she speaks German, Spanish, and Portuguese. After a period as a journalist and then as a teacher, she studied at the TUC's Organising Academy, and before her election was the Labour Party's national trade union liaison officer.
Engel was elected as the MP for Derbyshire North East at the 2005 General Election on the retirement of the sitting Labour MP Harry Barnes. She held the seat comfortably with a majority of 10,065 and remains the MP there. She made her maiden speech on October 20, 2005.[link] She has been a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee since her election.
She opposed the Iraq War.
