- In the New Testament, Nathanael is a Galilean called by Christ to be a disciple, see John 1:45-50 and 21:2. Most authorities regard him as the same man who is called Bartholomew in Acts 1:13 and in the Synoptic Gospels, see Bartholomew, Bar.
- Nathaniel is a character in Jonathan Stroud's The Bartimaeus Trilogy.
- The name Nathanael means God has given. or gift of God.
- Nathanial is also a character in the underworld Underworld franshise.
- Nathaniel can also be longer for the names Nate, Nat, or Nathan
