National Amusements

Encyclopedia : N : NA : NAT : National Amusements

National Amusements is a chain of movie theaters spanning 1,300 screens, mainly in the New England and Mid-Atlantic areas of the United States. It also owns a controlling interest in two large media conglomerates, Viacom and CBS Corporation. Other holdings include 70% of video-game maker Midway Games, and the Showcase Cinemas chain in the UK. It owns the former Paramount Pictures-owned theaters (which Paramount had to give up in the ruling of the landmark Supreme Court case United States v. Paramount Pictures, Inc. and is, ironically, now connected to Paramount again by its parent company Viacom).

Sumner Redstone and his family control National Amusements, which was founded by his father Michael Redstone in Valley Stream, New York. Corporate offices are in Dedham, Massachusetts.
