Club Necaxa is a Mexican professional football club. Necaxa plays in the Primera División de México. The club plays its home games at Estadio Victoria, located in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico.

History

Necaxa was founded August 21, 1923 with the support of the Compañía de Luz, from which they drew a nickname, the "Electricistas". They were very successful in the early days of the Mexican league, winning championships in the 1932-33, 1934-35, 1936-37, and 1937-38 seasons.

Necaxa's fortunes declined after the professionalization of the Mexican league following the 1942-43 season, as they were excluded from the newly formed, 10-team Liga Mayor.

Necaxa went the next fifty years without winning a single championship, before finally returning to prominence in the mid-1990s. They won conseecutive championships in the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons under manager Manuel Lapuente. The have gone on to win the 2001-02 apertura, and finish runners-up three times.

Alex Aguinaga

Alex Aguinaga is the greatest player to ever wear the "Rayos" jersey. He is a symbol of one of the greatest soccer franchises in Mexico during the 90's. Alex, born and raised in Ecuador came to Mexico in 1991 to play in Mexico City with the least popular team of the capital. As soon as he wore the white and red jersey for the first time, all Necaxa fans knew this was a relationship to stay. From there on Alex became the symbol of the team, leading them to 3 championships in the 90's and crowning himself as one of the greatest imported players in Mexico of all time.
