Nehima

Encyclopedia : N : NE : NEH : Nehima

Nehima is Lirael's sword in Garth Nix's books and Abhorsen. This sword, crafted by the Wallmakers, was a gift to Lirael from the Clayr, and is very powerful. It is a sister sword to Binder and has powers associated with memory. The name Nehima means "Forget-Me-Not". There are suggestions it was named after a person, as the Disreputable Dog says that "Nehima herself is long forgotten." Its original inscription is, "The Clayr Saw me, the Wallmakers made me, my enemies Remember me". Later, the inscription changes to "The Clayr saw a sword and so I was. Remember the Wallmakers, Remember me." It is beautifully gilded in gold, with an emerald at the bottom. Nehima was fused with a Necromancer's Pipes at the end of Abhorsen to form an ultimate sword, which bound Orannis. This sword's inscription is "Remember Nehima".
